OUR STUDIO

 

Strong Body/ Strong Mind Family Yoga Studio & More is located in the Center for Natural Wellness building at 174 Providence Street in Putnam, CT. Our studio is light, airy, and a very peaceful place to just be. We specialize in Vinyasa Flow inspired style of classes but we have been influenced by many different styles of yoga, Including Yin Yoga and Power Flow to name a few. We also offer a variety of other types of movement classes.

We also have monthly workshops lead by the studio staff. We are one of the only studios with a certified prenatal yoga teacher with over 15 years of experience in teaching Prenatal Yoga. We offer Mommy & Baby Yoga on a regular basis as well as Family Yoga.

We are here to offer yoga for the entire community both young and old. Open 7days a week and offering morning, afternoon and evening classes you are sure to find a class to fit your busy schedule. There is always room for one more. Beginners are always welcome.

OUR STAFF

Rhonda Wishart, Owner/Head Teacher

Rhonda Wishart is the owner of Strong Body/Strong Mind Family Yoga Studio and has been a personal trainer, group fitness and Yoga instructor since 2001. She is certified as an ACE Group Fitness & Personal Trainer and has a Senior Fitness Certification with AFAA. She began working on her 200RYT certification in 2004 starting with Yoga Fit and finally finished in 2010 with Integrative Yoga Therapy. She has completed her E200RYT and is also a Professional Level Prenatal Teacher Certified. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with other teachers and students in the coming years.

Rhonda first discovered yoga when she was 32 years old. She has had a regular practice for over 14 years and has been teaching Yoga and Boot Camp for over 9 years. Rhonda has been very fortunate in be able to teach in a variety of places such as Seely Brown Retirement Village, Killingly Parks & Recreation, Muscle Max Gym and Christ Church in Pomfret where she was exposed to many different body types, fitness levels and ages bringing yoga and it benefits to them all. Rhonda's classes have a strong focus on using the breath to get you through an exercise or a yoga pose. She always reminds her students that we are all different and that different is a good thing.

Kim Paquette Powell, LMT

A graduate of The International Institute of Chinese Medicine, Kim Paquette Powell, LMT, CIMT, Dipl. OM is a Licensed Massage Therapist, a Nationally Certified Acupuncturist (awaiting Connecticut certification), and a Herbologist. Kim holds a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine degree (Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine). She was certified in Tui Na Oriental Bodywork in August of 2001.

Kim has worked with medical doctors,chiropractors, rehabilitation clinics, physical therapy offices, and integrative medicine clinics since August 2002, while maintaining her own holistic practice. She is nationally certified in Medical Massage, Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish Massage, Shiatsu, Tui Na, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. She has the extensive education and experience to customize each session for your individual needs. 

 

Kim recently relocated back to her hometown from Athens Georgia, where she was awarded Best of Athens Massage Therapist for two years. Through her love of family, healing and community, she is excited and committed to bring her healing touch back to her home town.

Courtney Squire

Courtney is a local organic farmer, certified Health Coach, and Integrative Amrit Method (I AM) Yoga Therapist. She has experienced a personal transformation through her yoga practice and training's that have helped her to overcome the physical, mental, and emotional effects of stress and is passionate about sharing these benefits with others. Courtney is currently working on her Integrative Amrit (I AM) Yoga Nidra Professional Training Certification and is excited to share the profound healing benefits of this ancient practice with others.

Stefanie Trudeau

Stefanie is a DONA International certified birth doula, postpartum doula, and Certified Lactation Counselor. She supports birthing women and their partners at home and hospital births in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Stefanie and her husband have two children, Oliver and Lucille. The stark differences between her own two births were part of what led Stefanie to become a doula. She has been serving women in this capacity for about 5 years and has attended over 60 births. Stefanie's other interests include good food, yoga, and baby goats. When she's not supporting birthing families and spending time with her sisterhood of fellow birth professionals, she can be found growing food on her hobby farm and adventuring with her family in the woods.

Patti Wedegis

Patti has been teaching group fitness since 1987. She holds certifications through ACE as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. In 2002, Patti earned her certification to teach Pilates through PIA (Pilates Instructors of America). During the 25 years of teaching group fitness, Patti taught dance, step, spinning, strength classes. Patti taught at many wonderful gyms in the northeast corner of CT and in 2005, she opened Cutting Edge Fitness which she operated solely for 5 years. In 2009, Patti began practicing yoga with many different instructors. Yoga has become a daily practice for her ever since.

In 2006, Patti enrolled in the Holistic Lifestyle Coach program at the Chek Institute in San Diego. She completed this program in October of 2010. This program altered Patti’s vision for health. In this course of study, she learned how healthy lifestyle habits such as: positive thoughts, proper hydration, nutrition, adequate sleep, and corrective/supportive movement supports overall well-being.
